Seven sheets of paper and a marker, or print the signs
Tape, to stick the signs up around the room
Space to move, with the floor cleared

Before you start

Put up the seven signs

One sign in each corner or spot around the room. Lay them out like the map, so it’s easier to remember.

Safe running Clear the floor of toys and anything to trip on. Little ones walk or hold a big one’s hand, and everyone stops on “Freeze!”

Make your own signs

No printer? Write each name big on its own sheet of paper, colour it in, and tape it up.

Put them roughly where they sit on the map: the Americas on one side, Asia and Australia on the other, Europe and Africa in the middle.
Antarctica can go on the floor at the “bottom” of the room.

How to play

Put up the seven continent signs in different spots around the room (print them, or write them on paper).
One person is the caller and holds the phone or tablet. Everyone else stands in the middle.
The caller reads out the call: a country, an animal, a landmark or a food. It’s read aloud too.
Press Go and everyone runs to the continent where it belongs before the countdown ends. Then Freeze!
Show the answer: the continent lights up on the map, with a fun fact to read out.

Good to know

The islands of the Caribbean and the countries of Central America count as part of North America.
We call the seventh continent Australia (Oceania): Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific islands.
Every call belongs to exactly one continent. Animals are called where they live in the wild.

Safe running

Clear the floor first: toys, bags, cords and rugs that slip.
Keep signs away from stairs, doors and anything breakable.
In a small room, or with little ones, turn on Tiptoe mode. Everyone stops on “Freeze!”

For mixed ages

Little ones hold an older brother’s or sister’s hand and run together.
Teens can play Harder calls: capital cities, rivers and less-known animals.
Let a younger player be the caller: the calls are read aloud for them.

On the answer, 1 to 6 tick a player.
